November Development Update

November 30, 2015/in Uncategorized /by RideOn Agent

Hey Riders,

From now on, we will no longer use Indiegogo to update our community, but will be posting here in our blog. You will receive alerts to new posts if you follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or via your email if you’re a customer.

We’d like to update you on a few bits of progress we’ve made:

Hardware

In preparation for the production of the first batch of RideOn goggles, we’ve received a sample unit to check and make sure that the hardware meets our expectations. We assembled and tested the unit, and are pleased to announce that the optics and electronic components fit in their plastic housing and are functioning as expected.

Here are some photos of the unit:

Software

We’ve improved some of your favorite features!

  • Friends Finder – Originally, this feature only highlighted your friends’ locations in the distance. But we found that this required you to look in a friend’s direction to see them, and was slightly annoying on its own. So we’ve added a “Friends Radar”. Imagine a radar in the corner of your vision, like a minimap in a video game. The center represents you, and the blips around the center represent your friends’ locations relative to you. While RideOn goggles will still highlight your friends’ real locations with AR graphics in the distance around you, the radar is perfect for quickly finding your buddies with just a glance.
  • “Just In Time” Navigation – In the interest of reducing distractions, we’ve tweaked our navigation system. When you approach a junction, AR graphics will show you a small map of which pistes lie ahead. This way, instructions appear only when and where you need them.
  • Maps – We now have a list of all of the resorts that will be immediately available when you receive RideOn. This list includes 246 in Europe, 156 resort maps in North America, 52 in Japan, and 18 in the Southern Hemisphere. The full list will be made available to you soon. And remember, maps not yet included will be available for download as they are created.
  • RideOn’s Mobile App – We’ve implemented social network logins to the app’s infrastructure. This means you can log in to the app with, say, Facebook, and see a list of any of your Facebook friends who have also done so. These are the people from whom you can request GPS location for the Friends Finder feature. If both of you agree to share GPS locations, congrats – you’ve got a new blip on the Friends Radar!

That’s it for now.

*If you have pre-ordered RideOn goggles on Indiegogo or via get.rideonvision.com, please check your email now for an update on delivery timeline.*
